Shaking up the London hotel scene with a mission-driven approach, 1 hotel mayfair offers a fusion of sustainability and luxury overlooking Green Park. Reimagining an existing building, the design maintains 80% of the original structure to minimize environmental impact.

Location

Located in the heart of Mayfair overlooking Green Park, the 1 hotel is London’s first mission-driven nature-centric luxury property. It features 181 deluxe rooms and suites, a restaurant from two Michelin-starred chef Tom Sellers, a neighborhood coffee shop, bar, and bespoke fitness center. The swanky nine-story property is the UK and European flagship for 1 Hotels, a boutique brand dedicated to eco-conscious practices.

The hotel is surrounded by iconic landmarks, art galleries, and designer boutiques. It is also a short walk from Bond Street, Piccadilly, and the Royal Academy of Arts. The hotel offers a variety of amenities, including a 24-hour front desk and free WiFi.

The hotel provides breakfast for guests. It offers a range of choices, from eggs and bacon to cold cuts and fruit. The staff is attentive and friendly. There are also a number of restaurants nearby.

Rooms

With 137 guestrooms and 44 suites, this Berkeley Street gem—the first European property for 1 Hotels—has been carefully designed to blend luxury and sustainability. The hotel was built to BREEAM Excellent standards and recycles 80 percent of the pre-existing building structure, including the stunning double height Green Park Penthouse (which can be expanded to two or three bedrooms).

Throughout the property you’ll find moss walls and natural timber accents, with bespoke furnishings crafted from fallen branches and felled wood – from a gorgeous chunk of textured oak which is used as a check-in desk to tree trunk-styled coffee tables. There are also a number of works by contemporary artists that highlight humankind’s impact on nature, such as Patrick Nadeau’s impressive ‘living chandelier’ – Rainforest, and Steve McPherson’s concentric mosaic-like Flow in Neighbours cafe.

Sustainable touches are woven into every aspect of the hotel, from the use of recycled wine bottles as room water taps to a combined heat and power system which prioritises energy efficiency. In-room amenities include a 55-inch HD Smart TV, tracksuit-style bathrobes and slippers and non-toxic organic bed linens.

Restaurants

1 Hotel mayfair fuses nature’s finest sources with the buzzy creativity and contemporary charm of London’s most vibrant neighbourhood. The eco-conscious hotel’s reclaimed wood and Welsh slate bring the outside in, while local artists are showcased with pieces like Steve McPherson’s concentric mosaic-like Flow in Neighbours.

Designed with biophilia in mind, the hotel’s repurposed rooms are filled with natural light and botanical prints. There’s also a bar and a restaurant from two Michelin-starred chef Tom Sellers.

It’s the brand’s first European property, and it brings “eco-conscious luxury and contemporary design” to the heart of London. The brand was founded in 2015 and already has properties in Miami and Los Angeles, plus upcoming launches in Hanalei Bay, Sanya (China), Toronto, Nashville, Crete and Copenhagen. Its ethos centres on the idea that “those who travel the world should care about it”. Its London outpost is no different.

Bars

With DJs spinning at the weekend, this is a swanky spot to get some dance floor action. The hotel also offers an array of cocktail bars – May Fair Bar & Dover Yard, the latter helmed by Matteo Carretta, the former mixology director at Claridge’s.

With its fluttering curtains, dry stone walls and decadent fireplace, this is a place to escape the buzz of Mayfair and enjoy cocktails like Rookie Bramble made with British honey and bramble or Grand Marnier souffle with tonka bean creme anglaise.

The acclaimed restaurant Dovetale is the hotel’s centrepiece – two Michelin star chef Tom Sellers has crafted a menu that’s grounded in a respect for seasonal, organic and locally sourced ingredients. The bar also offers a world-class list of drinks, many of which feature natural and botanical ingredients. The hotel is a short walk from London’s finest shops, from the likes of Saville Row and Jermyn Street, to the iconic Bond Street.
